Thursday - Making Righteous Choices

Devotion was given by Sis. H. We did a quick scripture mastery review matching pictures with key words and references. We need to work on these a lot more.

We read a article from Sept. New Era entitled "Making Righteous Choices" by Elder Paul V. Johnson of The Seventy. We marked the scriptures he referred to in the article and made notations in the margins.

His advice to making righteous choices were explained four ways:
1. Gauge your decisions against the Standards.
2. Ask if it Leads to Christ.
3. Be Courageous.
4. NOW is the time.

Read D&C 32-34 for Friday. Jeremiah has the devotional assignment.

Buffalo Games Wednesday

Conference will be held this weekend. We talked briefly about the history of conference.  It was usually held over a three-day period which always included April 6.  In 1977 under Spencer W. Kimball a change was made to the two-day conference as we know it today.  As a gathering activity we held the first Senior Seminary
Buffalo Games.  The games included...fishing, shooting rubberband guns, apple bobbing, crockette and cooking over a fire.  We ate bread on a stick coated in cinnamon sugar.  Our winners were awared medals of honor.  Everyone left smelling like a campfire but we had a good time.

Luke played his violin for devotion.  The hymn, "If I could high to Kolob"  it was beautiful.  Thank you Luke for sharing your talent with us.

There needs to be Opposition in all things

We looked up scriptures about opposition in all things, acting for ourselves and freedom to choose.  We talked about how we got the power to choose and the adversary's part in the plan.
2 Nephi 2, D&C sections 29 and 83.

"Opposition provides choices, and choices bring consequences---good or bad."  -Pres. Ezra Taft Benson
Good choices =blessings, freedom.  Bad choices = misery, captivity

PLAY DAY

Paul shared 1nephi 1: 3:7  He reminded us that when we do as the Lord commands, Hewill help us!

No music today.  I changed my mind on the activity.  Instead we watched a video clip demonstrating how you can share your testimony with others.  You don't always know what others are thinking or how they are feeling, but if you listen to the still small voice, it will prompt  you  to share an experience that has helped you overcome adversity, sadness, loneliness, etc. and others just might be receptive to your words.

For fun we played , What Am I Thinking? This games reinforces that many of us do think alike.  My objective in playing this game was to help us understand that there is power in thinking as others when it is good and righteous.  Thanks for playing today, it was great!

Also and bigTHANKS  to everyone in the class for participating in the activities.  It strenghtens our bond as a class and helps us to understand one another.

Friday,  read D&C 29...we will be talking about choices.  Kristen has devotional.

Sustaining our leaders and common consent

The president of the Church is the Lord's spokesman and the only person who can declare doctrine or revelation that is binding for the whole Church.  D&C 28:1  Amos 3:7

We covered D&C 26 and 28 today.  Topic of conversation was sustaining our leaders and  voting by common consent.    In the church we vote to sustain those given church callings, those receiving preisthood ordinations and in some cases, Church policies,  When we sustain churchleaders we are not choosing who we want to lead us.  Leaders in the Church are called by God.  By raising our arms we show that we accept and sustain the leaders God  has chosen.

"The procedure of sustaining is much more than a ritualistic raising of the hand.  It is a commitment to uphold, to support, to asist those who have been selected."   -Gordon  B.  Hinckley

"When you vote affirmatively you make a solemn covenant with the Lord that you will sustain, that is, give your full loyalty and support, without equivocation or reservation, to the officer for whom you vote.  -Harold B. Lee

Jacob shared a message he learned while attending EFY this summer.  He referred to it as the
"Awful Arrithmatic of the Atonement."   As an object lesson he asked Paul to stand and hold out his arm with his palm held upward than he began stacking books for Paul to hold without support.  Eventually the books became unbalanced and he could not hold them any longer.  With two hands he could maintain a bit longer but eventurally the weight would be too much.  Jacob pointed out that Christ took upon himself the weight of all the sins of the world.  What a heavy load...and he did it,  just for us as individuals and as a world.  Only He could do it, thank goodness he did!

The Sacrament and putting on the whole armour of God

Today we met in the Chapel and discussed the emblems of the Sacrament;  why we can use water  instead of wine.  Also we answered questions about our individual feelings about our relationship with Christ and how what we can do and how we prepare to receive the Sacrament each sunday.
The glue-in that was given out today was a reminder of why we put on the whole armour of God.
ImageElder Harold B. Lee said,  "We have the four parts of the body that...[are] the most vulnerable to the powers of darkness. The loins, typifying virtue, chastity.  The heart, typifying our conduct.  Our feet, our goals or objectives in life and finallly, our head, our thoughts.

Storytelling

Today Haley reminded us to Choose The Right.  She read a scripture and the words to a song, There's a right way to live and be happy
It is choosing the right everyday
I am learning the teachings of Jesus
He will help me and show me the way
Choose the right way
and be happy
I can always choose the right.

We began our creations for our stories.  We will co ntinue with this project on Friday for about 20 minutes than we will share our stories with the class for the remainder of the class time.
Thanks to those of you who took this challenge.  I look forward to hearing your stories.
Kristen has the devotional in the morning.
